About Ovis Alms Foundation
What if helping someone in need—near or far—could be as simple as the desire to do so? And what if donors could hear firsthand from the very people whose lives their charity touched?
Those questions grew out of something often overlooked in the donor experience. A receipt may confirm that a donation was successful, and a report may describe the good an organization accomplishes, but neither can replace hearing directly from a recipient about the difference it made. Ovis Alms Foundation was founded on the conviction that this missing voice is essential to completing the charitable continuum. GraManna, now in development, is the mobile-friendly digital platform through which we hope to bring that vision to life.
Our Purpose
Our Mission
Our mission is to bring practical charitable relief within reach of people facing life's financial challenges, while making participation in charity more personal and purposeful for those who wish to help.
We believe compassion should extend beyond extraordinary circumstances, that receiving assistance should preserve personal dignity, and that every act of kindness deserves an opportunity to make a tangible impact. Through this vision, we hope to foster a community of compassion and accountability, dedicated to making a lasting difference in the lives of all involved.
Background & Inspiration
Our Story
The inspiration behind Ovis Alms Foundation can be traced to a familiar experience: wanting to help, yet finding the process more involved than it needed to be. Donating food, clothing, or household necessities often meant gathering items, arranging transportation, and delivering them to a charitable organization. Even with the best intentions, these efforts required considerable planning, while those receiving the goods had little choice in what was available.
As shopping and financial transactions became possible through smartphones and computers, a new possibility emerged. Could someone enable another person to obtain daily necessities without the physical handoff while allowing that person greater freedom to choose what was most useful?
But convenience was only part of the story. Personal encounters with people asking for money raised a deeper consideration. Faith encouraged an open heart rather than judgment, yet giving cash sometimes left an unanswered question: would it be spent on food or other necessities? Merchant eGift cards suggested a promising alternative—one that could preserve the spirit of compassion while offering recipients practical choices and directing charitable resources toward their intended purpose.
Another question lingered long after a donation was made: Did my donation make a meaningful difference? A confirmation could show that the donation went through, but it could not tell the whole story of what became of it. Hearing firsthand from someone who had benefited—even through a simple, heartfelt expression of thanks—could transform that uncertainty into reassurance, satisfaction, and even renewed motivation to give again.
Together, these experiences and reflections led to the establishment of Ovis Alms Foundation and the development of GraManna: an effort to fuse practical assistance and human appreciation into one continuing charitable experience.
